Moe had Surgery!! - But he still loves Studio Calico!

I don't know about you, but for our family, it has been quite a stressful weekend. It all started a few days ago when Moe, our fluffy boy, stopped eating and started throwing up. We thought maybe it would pass in a day or so, but unfortunately it didn't. Moe progressively got worse, and by Friday, wasn't eating at all and hadn't gone potty. I left work early and rushed him to the vet. He was severely dehydrated and lethargic. After some x-rays the vet decided that there might be an obstruction in his bowels. She recommended that we take him to Advanced Veterinary Services (AVS) where they would be able to give him an ultrasound which would tell us more. So, I picked up Moe from our vet and took him to AVS which is down the street. Moe had to spend the night, and while he was there the Vet at AVS performed another set of x-rays to double check our Vet's findings. AVS sent Moe's second set of x-rays to a radiologist to read in hopes that he would see for sure if there was an obstruction. Around 10PM on Friday night I received a call from AVS telling me that the radiologist believed that there was an obstruction and they would like to perform surgery on Moe. I agreed. At 3AM I received a phone call from the AVS vet letting me know that Moe got through surgery fine and was in recovery. He also let me know that they did NOT find anything obstructing Moe's intestine nor his stomach. I immediately felt awful for putting my kitty through a surgery that he had not needed! I really wish that an ultrasound had been done, but I can understand why they thought there was an obstruction... even a radiologist thought there was something. Oh well.... we also found out he had a slight urinary tract infection as well as an upper respiratory infection. He has antibiotics for both as well as pain medications because of the surgery. I am just happy that he is doing better. Moe is also finally eating again and keeping it all down. The medication schedule is pretty strict, but only for the first three days. Keith, my brother and I are working together to make sure that Moe get's all medicines at the right time. I am sure it will go just fine.

These past few days have made me realize how important my pets are to me. I never thought I would care about their health as much as I do! They really ARE a part of our family. If something happened to either of them, I would be heartbroken. However, they will NEVER be more important than my real babies. :)

Here are some photos from his journey this weekend:

(Moe when we originally got to AVS)

(Second night at AVS after surgery: we were trying to get him to eat. Turns out, he would only eat with me and the food from home!)

(Me loving on my baby... and really worried)

(In the kitty carrier getting ready to head home)

(Sleeping on mommy and daddy's bed: we ended up taking the box spring and mattress off of the frame and sitting it on the floor because Moe really can't jump up on things or he could tear his staples)

Now that I have officially bored you with the story of Moe's surgery, I'll share the layout I did of him about a week ago using one of my Studio Calico kits. Moe loves it when my kits come in.... because of the boxes! He loves to sit in them. It is so cute and funny to see.

My Moe

Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting! I'll keep everyone up to date on Moe's recovery. I will say, he does look super cute in his little vest... though he had to go through surgery to get it. Luckily, he doesn't seem to mind it at all.
