Reading is Fundamental

Books are very important in our home. Not only to me, but also to Keith and the kids. We all love to read. I have always loved to read, even as a child I would always be reading something. It seems I have passed on that love to my children.

Austin is a great reader. He picks up on words pretty fast. Serenity has just started learning, and is getting better each day. It is fun reading with the kids every night before bed. Keith and I split the kids up and read to each of them for around twenty minutes. Usually in that time, we can get three of Serenity's books done. Whoever is reading to her will then let the other adult know so that they stop with Austin. Austin has been having us read space books lately. For a while it was all about the weather and natural disasters... right now, just space and the solar system. Serenity tends to choose princess books, or the first reader books that she can read on her own. Sometimes I think she is memorizing the words to each book though and reciting them back from memory though.... she will sometimes not even look at the page! LOL. It's cute, and she is learning, which is important, so I let it slide most of the time.

Hopefully by creating this layout, it will remind my children, and their own of the importance of books, no matter how many advances there are in technology. Books will always be important and wanted in our family. Remember, after all, reading is fundamental. :)
