Hope is the Thing - Art Journal Page

On my quest to continue my art through my art journal, I have fallen even more in love with stencils. Stencils allow you to do so much on your mixed media pieces, layouts, cards and journal pages. I definitely suggest if you are just starting out your stencil collection to get 3-4 in varying sizes in some of the basic shapes. You can also use everyday items such as punchinello (sequin waste) chicken wire and other household/hardware items to use for stencils. I know some who even cut their own stencils. The sky is the limit! 

Today's journal page is an example of what you can do with a few stencils and some paint. The quote on this is one of my favorites by Emily Dickinson from a wonderful poem. 

"Hope" Is the Thing with Feathers

"Hope" is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—

I took the first part of the poem and used it on my page. Such a simple page, but has a great effect! 

I will be teaching this journal page in the first Art Journal Club class at Speedy Scrappers in Troy, IL. You get 6 art journaling classes (which will all be recorded for online access) for $50!
