My Personal Hell

As most of you who have followed my blog for a time know, I worked in hotels for a long time. Almost ten years to be exact. It is a crazy and rewarding industry to work in. However, this past year, I had enough. I went through several (and by several I mean five!) jobs in one year. At the end of 2011 though, I found a job that I absolutely love which isn't in hotels. I am grateful and sad at the same time to say that my career in hotels is over for a time. I may go back at some point, which will be very hard, but for right now, I plan on staying where I am.

In the hotel industry, I was a manager. It is tough. Anyone who has ever been in management knows of the long hours, the paperwork, stress, employee issues, stress, communication, customer service complaints to deal with and did I mention stress?? Basically I had an anxiety attack that sent me over the edge. It was too much to deal with. Management was no longer an option. So, I moved down the ladder to hourly and just working at the front desk of a hotel. However, that didn't work out either. As a manager, you expect the customers to come to you with their complaints and crappy attitudes. I had forgotten what front desk agents deal with. They are the first to hear of it all, the first to get yelled at, the first treated like dirt and the ones who have to attempt to first calm down the person yelling at them before they go and get the manager. My hats off to my fellow hoteliers who work at the front desk of a hotel. You deserve more respect and money than you get on an hourly basis. No one deserves to be treated the way you are by a customer. And keep in mind, the majority of this harassment is in your face. Ugh. That was enough for me. I left.

So, to pay honor to my hotel hell, I created this dark layout with a photo from a hotel that I was at. Keep in mind, I never worked here, just did some training here on occasion. I will not give the name for confidentiality sake. This is actually a great hotel to be at and work at. :) It just so happened that this was the most recent hotel related picture that still existed in my files!

The Handmade kit by Studio Calico was used to create this. (Yup, still working with it!) It's for my latest iPhone album that is still being worked on.

Journaling reads: Hotels were my own personal hell during 2011. I finally got out of this hell in December 2011. Hooray!

The title. I love the paint splatters that I added.

The photo. Some bakers twine from The Twinery was added. All of the blacks, whites and greys were fun to work with. And there is just that touch of red from the doors in the photo that pops out. Love it!!!
