I was so very happy when I saw that the 5th prompt for Shimelle's Pretty Paper Party involved distressing. I always love getting messy and tearing up papers! This prompt also allowed me to pull out my paints, mists and fabric. Oh, and my sandpaper as well.
A lot of times, when I do a distressed page the colors are neutral with more vintage papers and older photos. In this case I decided to do the complete opposite. I wanted bright colors so that the entire layout would pop. I love how it turned out. The colors are some of my favorite color combinations.
I used acrylic paint on the Kraft card stock to start out the layout. I then added a piece of bright magenta fabric I had purchased at a garage sale. Some awesome wood grain Core'dinations card stock was added to that along with some Basic Grey papers which I used my border punch on. I didn't use scissors or a paper cutter for anything with the exception of the one strip on the right side of the layout. The rest of the pieces were all torn. I used my sandpaper on the Core'dinations paper as well as the edges of the other papers.
I hand rolled the flowers myself and used corrugated cardboard to make the leaves. Acrylic paint and Chalkboard Glimmer Mist was added to the leaves.
After I completed the layout, I just wasn't happy with the lack of color, believe it or not! So I took my pink Chalkboard Glimmer Mist and a doily and used it as a mask in a couple of places. I was finally pleased with the result.
I am excited to get to working on the next prompts. I am finally caught up with posting my completed projects, so I need to get back to the studio and create!!
I hope you are all having a wonderful day! If you get a chance to create, I'd love to see what you make!!!

Hi Emily ~ Thanks for the lovely comment you left on my blog. :o) Your blog is adorable, and I loved looking at your layouts for Shimelle's class prompts. (LOVE that doily template you used on the most recent one!)
I also had a great time looking at your beautiful canvases. I took a class called "She Art" this past year and it was the first time I'd ever worked with making collages on canvases. Your work inspires me to get back to that!
Enjoy the rest of Shimelle's class! Glad to see you are keeping up with the prompts and making such beautiful pieces. :o)
