Sometimes we all need that push to keep us going in the right direction. Sometimes things happen that we have no control over that send us to the edge, and make us question what we are doing with our life in that particular situation.
Recently, this happened to myself and my boss. We recently had a fire at work, nothing big, but it was enough to set off the sprinkler in the room where it occurred. If there is one thing you should know about fires in hotels, it is this: rarely will a fire destroy things in a hotel, generally it is the water damage that hurts the most. Which is exactly what happened in this case.
I was already in bed when I got the phone call regarding the fire. I only had two hours of sleep thus far after being up since two AM that previous morning. Talk about running on empty. My boss was on the same schedule as me. I rushed into work to find my hotel full of water, firemen and lots of upset guests. After saving the guests items in the flooded rooms, and saving our own hotel assets, we found that there were approximately eight or nine rooms that were damaged to the point of being un-rentable, and I only have a 72 room hotel. Yikes! Talk about stress! I didn't fall asleep until 2PM that day, and was running on empty for Friday. (Keep in mind, this all happened last week) My boss, once again, in the same shoes that I am.
We really have needed some inspiration, something to keep us going.... and so when I saw this girl I created a couple of weeks ago, I knew it was a sign.
She was created from the Christy Tomlinson She Art Workshop again, and I love how this one turned out. I took an old framed painting that was pretty ugly and after priming it with Gesso, worked my magic. I then placed it back in the frame so it could be hung on the wall.
The frame is distressed and old looking.... perfect for this girl. The colors, textures and everything else look fabulous with the frame. I think she has to be one of my favorites.
And our mantra for the month. "She kept on going anyway." Both Donna and I seriously needed to see this, and believe in it. And we do. We will keep on going until we can't anymore. I ended up giving this girl to Donna, who needs her more than I. Funny thing is, she looks a lot like her! Neat how that worked out.
She is wearing some pearls and lots of rubons were used on her dress, as well as some new stamps I received in the mail a couple of weeks ago.
Check out those boots! They are made from some Prima leaves that I cut down to look like boots!
Some more detail....
Flower in her hair. She's a pretty girl and deserves some pretty accessories to go with her!

HUGS Em! I know what you must be going through (having previously worked in the hotel biz) and what stress and pressures you must be under. I hope you will get rest and be restored. What a great piece of art to remind you to keep on 'keepin on'
More Hugs,
Kristina
