Altered Fruit Box and a Blog Party!!!

I don't know about you and your family, but my family LOVES clementines. They are so darn good!!! The best time of the year for us is when they are in season. Such as this time of year.... winter.  We buy them in these neat wooden boxes at the farmers market near us. The farmers market is the only place that seems to carry them in these wooden boxes. Such a shame, because those boxes make fabulous storage!! As you can see, I have taken one and altered it for flower storage! I used the February Lucky Girl Crafts Kit, " Kid at Heart"  to decorate the box. It was very simple to alter this box... and hardly used any supplies!

You can also see this project on the Lucky Girl Crafts Blog HERE!!!

First I primed the box with white Gesso after removing some extra staples and the paper labels from the sides. I then used three coats of Crackle Paint in two different shades of pink to cover that. After the Crackle Paint dried, I used my Distress Ink to ink the whole thing so that the cracks would be more visible. After all of this, I used Mod Podge to seal it. I then added a little more Distress Ink to all of the sides after it had dried. When all was dry, I used the Echo Park Park paper to put a strip along the bottom of the front and back of the box. I fussy cut flowers from the Crate Paper page, and added a bunch of the Prima flowers along the side with it. To make it a bit more even on the other side, I added some more of the Crate. I took the Thickers and traced them with a Zig brown marker so that they would be more prominent and added them as the label. Of course the creation would not be complete without some ribbon and brads along the side and in the center of the flowers.

I am currently using the box to hold my favorite Prima flowers. I have many more flowers than this around my studio, but I am so darn partial to Prima!
