Message to all of my followers

Ok followers... I have to laugh.... one day I log on here and have 306 followers... the next day I have 304, then 305 for a couple of days, and now back to 306....how many of you are there really?? LOL, and who keeps leaving me?! I had to get a laugh out of it after the awful day I had today... thanks for making me smile! I needed it.

Today was our court date with our ex-landlord who we rented from for only a month.... long story short, we were suing to get our security deposit and rent back since she rented the house to us knowing that it had failed city inspections and was legally uninhabitable. So, we get in front of the judge and the crazy lady says that she is counter suing us for the last 11 months of rent that we hadn't paid, and this is for breach of contract. Uh, what????!!!! Seriously!! OMG, the look on everyone's faces was priceless. We had no clue. The judge was pissed because she had basically "sandbagged" us, in his words and that wasn't right. Unfortunately there was nothing to be done and now we have to go through the process of retaining a lawyer and going to a real trial. Ugh... talk about messing up our year....

Anyone know any good lawyers??? LOL

I am a steady follower, although an infrequent commenter. As far as the lawsuit, I would recommend looking into the laws of your state and possibly representing yourself. Although her counterclaim somewhat sounds legit, the bottom line is, you cannot be forced to honor a contract that is illegal/invalid. Most landlords with a couple properties have a lawyer on retainer and the average tenant usually just ends up setteling and paying things (even if they shouldn't) to avoid paying an attorney.
